AWS Glacier & AWS Deep Archive Glacier

6) AWS Glacier

  • Used for long term back ups
  • May take several minutes to couple of hours for an object to get restored (downloaded/retrieved)
  • 99.999999999% durability
  • Very cheap price for storage when compared to S3 & IA.

7) Glacier Deep Archive

  • Used for back up data that will be hardly accessed
  • Retrieval takes around 12 hours.

For normal glacier, data that needs to be retrieved somewhat faster will be suitable. For glacier deep archive, data even with very long retrieval times is not a problem, then this is best.

Glacier deep archive is the cheapest storage class of all.

  • 1 TB in Glacier = 14$
  • 1 TB in Glacier Deep Archive = 10.99$
Exact price values are not asked in exam but you should know which service is cheaper & which one is costly.

(There are 5 other types of storage classes in AWS S3 in the previous post.)
